 PRESIDENT OF THE AFM
DR ISAK SCHALK VAN DER MERWE BURGER


Dr Isak Burger was born on 10 May 1951 in Cape Town. He attended primary and high school in Pretoria where he was a Dux student at Voortrekkerhoogte.

He entered the ministry at Balfour in 1974 after completion of his BA and BD degrees at the University of Pretoria. He also served the AFM in Witbank Central as pastor and the AFM Theological College in Auckland Park as registrar and lecturer.

In 1987 he received a doctorate in Theology (DD) in Church History at the University of Pretoria and became president of the White Section of the AFM of South Africa.

He has been married to Heletia (néé Peens) since September 1972 and they have 3 children, Isak, Elanie and Vasti. He now lives in Wierda Park, Pretoria. Dr Burger serves on many Christian institutions internationally and locally. He has been a member of the International Pentecostal Fellowship since 1994 and a Director of Radio Pulpit since 1996. Dr Burger was one of the main role players in the unification of the AFM of SA.

In 1996 Dr Burger became the first president of the united AFM of SA, and thus represents more than 1.2 million Christians in South Africa.

 
 

VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE AFM
DR JAPIE JIMMY LA POORTA


Dr Japie La Poorta, born in 1954 in Germiston, entered the ministry after completing his training at Sarepta Theological Seminary in 1975.

His impressive list of academic qualifications is ongoing and includes an MA in Religious Studies (UCT) and a doctorate in Theology (UWC). Dr La Poorta also obtained a certificate in Advanced Labour Law at UNISA. Yet he finds ample time to serve the church, e.g. as National Youth Director (1996-1999). He also involves himself at community level and is currently a members of the Kuilsriver RDP Forum and chairperson of Ndiswe Trust.

Besides being deputy director of the AFM Welfare Department, Dr La Poorta has served the church as vice-president since 1999.

   
 

GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE AFM
PASTOR MPHIKELEKI GEORGE MAHLOBO


Pastor George Mahlobo was born in 1954. He entered the ministry after completing his theological training at the Central Bible College in 1978. Pastor Mahlobo started to minister at the Machadodorp Assembly in 1978 up to 1980. He went to Mabopane Assembly in 1980 and was the presiding pastor until 1985. From 1986 until 1994 he was the presiding pastor in Phuthaditjaba. He then became the rector of the Theological Institute of the AFM of SA. Since 1996 pastor Mahlobo has been the General Secretary at national level.

TREVOR HERBERT
 


Trevor has years of business experience at director and senior management level, spanning more than two decades. He has held many and varied positions of leadership at large South African corporations and Development organisations.He believes that he has been led by God to take an indefinite sabbatical from corporate life to "To make a contribution through the church that will impact the entire African continent." He is a published author as well as a sought after speaker who is widely recognised as a leader in the areas of church planting, church growth, team work and strategy. Trevor is married to Moira, a non-practising nursing sister and they have three children, two daughters, Hazel, Nadine and a son Joshua.
